Hens Runhaar

Hens Runhaar (1971) is Full Professor of Sustainable Food System Governance at Utrecht University. He studies the effectiveness of public policies and private initiatives to enhance the sustainability of food production and consumption as well the mechanisms that prevent transformation of food systems. Hens sees biodiversity as an important indicator of a sustainable food system and is therefore very interested in (the scaling of) agroecology, regenerative agriculture, and ‘nature-inclusive’ agriculture. He focuses on European food systems, with a special focus on the Netherlands. He teaches in Sustainable and Healthy Food track within the undergraduate Global Sustainability Sciences programme. He is member of the Future Food Utrecht platform at Utrecht University.
