About The World Shiology Forum

Shiology, a shortened term for the scinece of “eat+food”, is an innovative discipline established and gradually refined by Mr. Liu Guangwei, the president of the Shiology Research Institute in Beijing, China. The prefix “Shi” comes from a Chinese character “Shi”, which in Chinese has a dual meaning including the verb “eat”, as well as the noun “food”. Thus, we use a formula to explain “Shi”: Shi=Eat+Food. This interdisciplinary field is dedicated to “eat+food” affairs, with a focus on each individual eater, and aims to extend human health-span, foster a harmonious social order, and promote sustainable coexistence between humans and nature.

In today's world, we face a multitude of “eat+food” issues, including hunger, food waste, threats to food safety, and health problems caused by unhealthy eating habits. Currently, over 800 million people still suffer from hunger, while nearly 2 billion people are grappling with obesity and chronic diseases resulting from excessive consumption. In September 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit unveiled the “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, which established 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to guide the construction of a sustainable society over the next 15 years, addressing crucial problems that need to be solved. Among these goals, 12 are directly related to “eat+food”, highlighting the fact that without comprehensive and effective solutions to “eat+food” issues, the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals will remain elusive.

In this context, the World Shiology Forum was founded in 2017. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and based on the concept of “Shiology”, our forum seeks to establish a “eat+food” order that care about the needs of the world's 8 billion people, with the ambitious goal of achieving an average lifespan of 100 years (8B×100Y) in this century. Inspired by the Davos Forum, the World Shiology Forum has emerged as a prestigious international platform for dialogue, aiming to comprehensively address “eat+food” issues and promote sustainable development for all of humanity.

Since its inception in 2017, the World Shiology Forum has successfully organized three forums and one symposiums in China, Japan, and Turkey. These events, along with the release of five outcome documents, have provided policymakers, industry leaders, and professionals with a comprehensive and specialized reference point, contributing to the intellectual discourse and development of the global “eat+food” industry.
